Govinda is a vegetarian restaurant focused on healthy Indian meals that brings joy to the earth, the animals, and your taste buds. Govinda was founded in association with the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) mission to feed others and distribute materials beneficial for soul. Operated in association with Virginia's Krishna House it is our goal to humbly serve the Richmond community both spiritually and physically. Govinda focuses on creating and distributing nutritious vegetarian meals to the Richmond area. It is part of our philosophy to honor and respect the life of every being by not killing animals and by doing so we elevate our consciousness. It is our goal to make vegetarian eating easy, nutritious, affordable, and delicious to everyone. We plan to do this through our Vegetarian cooking program and Food For Life food distribution program.
One who pleases the land, the cows, and the senses
“By the liberal distribution of prasadam (pure plant-based food) and sankirtan (congregational chanting of the holy name), the whole world can become peaceful and prosperous.”

ISKCON of Virginia Krishna House
Krishna House is the home of International Society of Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) of Virginia and serves as a preaching center to VCU and the surrounding Richmond Community. ISKCON's goal is to serve god and our community. At the Krishna House we share traditional Bhakti Yoga teachings from ancient literature such as the Srimad Bhagavatam, Bhagavad Gita, and Vedas on how we can better ourselves, better the world, and later transcend the suffering of this material existence and go back to Godhead. At the temple we carry on ancient traditions such as worship of murtis (deities), chanting the maha mantra, kirtan (singing), and serving prasadam (holy food). Despite being based in Hindu texts and culture, Krishna House welcomes those of any faith to learn about our philosophy. We recognize all religion as attempts to understand and love God (Krishna) and we offer up the transcendental knowledge of our spiritual texts and guru to assist you on your spiritual journey. Stop by today and we can provide you with many tools and texts to start your spiritual journey.
Service every Sunday from 3pm to 5pm includes singing (kirtan), mantra chanting, and Srimad Bhagavatam (holy book) class. Followed by a free vegetarian feast for all attendees. Open to everyone!

Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
Our food is prepared with love and meant to inspired a higher consciousness in our customers. This higher consciousness was taught by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada founder for the International Society for Krishna Consciousness. Srila Prabhupada brought traditional hindu bhakti yoga principles to New York in1966 in hopes to spread Krishna Consciousness to the west. Srila Prabhupada traveled America and Europe preaching his message of loving god. His teaching show us all that we are not this body and how we can transcend this material world. Srila Prabhupada translated many great scriptures and wrote commentary so this ancient wisdom could be understood by the west.
